GOL Airlines to Introduce ChatGPT Check-In and Digital Boarding Passes on October 19

Brazil’s GOL Airlines is taking a major step in aviation technology, becoming the first airline in Latin America to integrate flight check-in and boarding pass generation directly into ChatGPT.

Starting October 19, 2026, passengers flying with GOL Linhas Aéreas will be able to check in for their flights, select seats, and obtain digital boarding passes through OpenAI’s ChatGPT platform.

The new service, currently undergoing limited testing, will be available to all GOL customers at no additional cost, including those using the free version of ChatGPT.

Instead of navigating the airline’s website or mobile application, passengers will be able to complete the check-in process through a conversational interface.

How GOL’s ChatGPT Check-In Will Work

The process will involve a few simple steps:

  1. Open ChatGPT on a smartphone or computer.
  2. Type @gol and request access to upcoming flights.
  3. Log in securely through GOL’s official authentication page.
  4. Select the flight and preferred seat.
  5. Confirm check-in and generate a digital boarding pass.
  6. Download the boarding pass or save it to a mobile wallet.

The boarding pass will include a QR code that passengers can present at the airport.

GOL emphasizes that passenger login credentials and sensitive information will remain protected within the airline’s secure systems, in accordance with Brazil’s General Data Protection Law (LGPD).

A First for Latin American Aviation

GOL’s announcement represents another milestone in the growing adoption of artificial intelligence by the airline industry.

While airlines have increasingly introduced AI-powered customer service tools, GOL is moving beyond traditional chatbots by integrating an essential travel function directly into a widely used AI platform.

According to Luiz Borrego, GOL’s Chief Information Officer, the initiative is designed to simplify the passenger experience while creating opportunities for greater automation and personalized services.

The airline has previously introduced several digital innovations, including online check-in, mobile boarding passes, facial recognition technology, and real-time flight information through Apple’s Live Activities.

What This Means for Travelers to Brazil

For international visitors traveling within Brazil, the new functionality could make domestic air travel more convenient.

GOL operates an extensive domestic network connecting major destinations such as São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, Salvador, Recife, and Fortaleza, along with numerous smaller Brazilian cities.

Travelers managing multiple domestic flights may particularly appreciate the ability to access flight information and complete check-in through a familiar conversational platform.

However, passengers will still need to follow GOL’s regular check-in deadlines, baggage requirements, and airport procedures.

Could AI Eventually Handle the Entire Flight Experience?

The ChatGPT integration may be just the beginning.

GOL has indicated that additional services could be introduced as the airline evaluates passenger feedback and the performance of the initial rollout.

In the future, conversational AI could potentially help travelers manage flight changes, receive travel updates, purchase additional services, or coordinate more complex itineraries. These possibilities have not yet been announced as confirmed features.

For Brazil’s aviation industry, GOL’s initiative highlights a broader transformation in how airlines interact with their customers.

Rather than requiring passengers to navigate multiple websites and applications, airlines may increasingly bring their services directly into the digital platforms travelers already use.

With the October 19 launch, GOL is positioning itself at the forefront of this shift, offering a glimpse of how artificial intelligence could reshape the passenger experience.
