Azul Linhas Aéreas now completes eight years of history, and since the inaugural flight São Paulo-Salvador, the airline has carried more than 150 million passengers, in a number of more than 1.5 million takeoffs, between national and international flights.

To celebrate the date, the company held this morning, at Viracopos International Airport, in Campinas – Azul’s largest operations hub -, a party with crew and customers.

“We are closing a special year for the company, despite the country’s economic scenario. Contrary to many expectations, we have expanded our international presence, and with the arrival of the A320neo, we have consolidated a diversified fleet that serves all types of airports and demands and allows us to operate in unique markets. We expect a 2017 of many achievements in this sense, with news already announced. We want to express our sincere thanks to each of our more than ten thousand crew members, who work daily to build a better and better company, towards the goal of being the best airline in the world “, celebrates the president of Azul, Antonoaldo Neves.

Check below the achievements that are part of the aerial trajectory:

The debut of flights to Lisbon with the A330 jets (which also operate frequencies for the United States) and the beginning of the offer of flights with the aircraft A320neo. Today, Azul operates in more than 100 cities, with a fleet that also includes Embraer 190, Embraer 195 and ATR 72-600.

As a result of the work of its crew, Azul was recognized as the most punctual low cost airline in the world in 2015 by the Official Airline Guide (OAG). For the sixth time in a row, Azul was awarded by Skytrax as the best low cost airline in South America and, for the first time, as the best customer service team in the same region. The company also won the title of airline with the best management in the world by the Airline Strategy Awards.

In addition to the launch of flights in Lisbon, which guarantee arrival to several other European destinations through codeshare, Azul has already announced operations for Buenos Aires (Argentina) and Santa Cruz de la Sierra (Bolivia), which will have nonstop connections from Belo Horizonte and Cuiabá, respectively.

Azul Cargo’s main highlight this year was the expansion of its operations, with new stores and partnerships that expand the capillarity of the shares of the cargo unit. Furthermore, the arrival of the A320neo jets will increase the cargo carrying capacity in the aircraft hold.

Azul Viagens, in turn, registered an increase in the number of hotels available, reaching almost every region in the world, in addition to entering the cruise market and opening 12 new stores.

For the next few months, Azul will increase the seating offer, with 3,500 extra high season summer flights, which will involve all regions of Brazil and overseas. The largest operation will be concentrated in the airports of São Paulo (Viracopos) and Belo Horizonte, where the company has its two main distribution centers

The presence of the A320neo, which started operations on December 1, will also gain strength in the air network, with new flights by the end of February next year for all regions of Brazil. Two units have already been inserted in the route, and by the end of the year there will be four. In all, Azul has ordered 63 units, which will be gradually incorporated into the fleet until 2023.
