Rising aviation fuel costs are forcing GOL to reduce its flight network, affecting connections across Brazil, the United States, and South America beginning in December 2026.
Brazilian carrier GOL Linhas Aéreas is preparing a significant reduction in its domestic and international flight network, with dozens of routes scheduled for suspension over the coming months.
Initial reports identified 17 affected routes, but subsequent investigations by Brazilian aviation publication Melhores Destinos have expanded the list to 38 routes, with the airline confirming the additional suspensions. Most services are expected to end by February 2027, although some cancellations will begin in December 2026.

The airline attributes the network adjustments primarily to sharply rising aviation fuel prices.
Why Is GOL Canceling Flights?
According to GOL, jet fuel prices have doubled and now account for approximately 40% of its operating expenses. These higher costs have forced the company to reconsider the profitability of certain routes and concentrate capacity on more sustainable operations.
The reductions come as GOL continues repositioning itself following its emergence from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in June 2025, while also pursuing international expansion using Airbus A330 aircraft.

Melhores Destinos – Updated GOL Route Cancellations. The published report identifies 38 routes; the table above reproduces the 36 individually named routes in that report. Dates and schedules remain subject to change.
Impact on International Travelers
The reductions will particularly affect travelers flying between Brazil and the United States.
With the cancellation of nonstop services from Brasília, Fortaleza, and Belém to Florida, passengers may need to connect through other Brazilian airports or use competing airlines.
The cuts also reduce nonstop options between Brazil and neighboring South American countries, including Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay.
For international tourists planning multi-city trips across Brazil, fewer nonstop domestic connections could mean longer travel times and additional connections.
What Happens to Passengers With Existing Reservations?
Passengers holding tickets on canceled flights should contact GOL or their travel agency to review available alternatives.
Under Brazilian aviation regulations, passengers affected by airline-initiated cancellations generally have the right to choose between eligible rebooking options and a refund.
GOL has indicated that it will continue offering alternative connections through its own network and more than 60 codeshare and interline agreements with partner airlines.

What This Means for Brazil’s Aviation Market
The route reductions illustrate the financial pressures facing Brazilian airlines despite continued demand for domestic and international travel.
For passengers, the immediate consequences could include fewer nonstop choices, longer connecting itineraries, and potentially higher fares on routes where competition decreases.
For GOL, the restructuring represents an effort to balance international growth ambitions with operating costs and financial discipline.
With additional schedule adjustments still possible, travelers planning trips to Brazil in 2027 should pay particular attention to flight schedules and connection options before finalizing their itineraries.
