Azul Brazilian Airlines has received its 50th Embraer E195-E2, marking another important step in the modernization of its fleet and its long-standing partnership with the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer.
The delivery carried additional significance: the aircraft is the 145th Embraer jet received by Azul since the airline began operations and the 2,000th E-Jet produced by Embraer.
Azul launched commercial service in December 2008 with two Embraer E190s, initially connecting its Campinas hub with Salvador and Porto Alegre. Nearly 18 years later, aircraft from the E-Jet family remain central to the airline’s strategy and domestic network.
A partnership that helped build Azul’s network
Since 2008, Azul has operated different generations of the Embraer E190 and E195, followed by the more efficient E195-E2. Together, these aircraft have completed more than 2.1 million flights for the airline, transported approximately 206 million passengers and flown over 1.65 billion kilometers.
Embraer jets have accounted for 56% of all Azul flights and carried 58% of the airline’s passengers since operations began. They have also helped Azul inaugurate 453 routes and serve 97 airports across Brazil.
The size and capacity of the E-Jet family have allowed Azul to enter markets where larger narrow-body aircraft might be difficult to operate profitably. At busier airports, the jets also enable the airline to offer additional frequencies and a wider selection of departure times.
“The Embraer aircraft have always played a strategic role in building our network,” Azul CEO John Rodgerson said. “They give us the flexibility to develop markets, connect cities with different levels of demand and offer more schedule options to our customers.”
The growing role of the E195-E2
The latest delivery strengthens Azul’s position as one of the world’s most important operators of the E195-E2.
The next-generation aircraft offers more capacity and improved efficiency compared with the original E-Jets, while retaining the two-by-two seating configuration that avoids middle seats. This combination makes the E195-E2 particularly well suited to Azul’s network, which includes major metropolitan routes as well as services to smaller and developing markets.
The aircraft was supplied through leasing company Azorra and represents the lessor’s tenth E2 delivered to Azul.
For Embraer, reaching the 2,000th E-Jet delivery is an important industrial milestone. The E-Jet program has grown into one of the world’s most successful families of commercial aircraft, serving airlines on regional and medium-distance routes across multiple continents.

Supporting connectivity across Brazil
Azul’s use of Embraer aircraft illustrates how smaller mainline jets can support air connectivity in a country with Brazil’s geography and diverse regional markets.
The airline’s Embraer fleet has helped introduce Azul service to 53 cities. In destinations such as Jericoacoara and Ponta Porã, the arrival of the E195 also marked the beginning of regular commercial airline service with larger aircraft.
With its 50th E195-E2 now delivered, Azul is continuing a partnership that has shaped its operations from the airline’s first day. The milestone also highlights the importance of locally manufactured aircraft to the expansion and development of Brazil’s domestic aviation network.
