TAM Airlines and GOL Airlines, the two major carriers in Brazil with about 40% market share each of the Brazilian domestic air travel market, were fined by the National consumer Secretary, from the Justice Ministry of Brazil, because of irregular sales of travel protection service, which were pre-selected on the ticket sales, and clients had to opt-out, before making the payment.
In the official note, the Consumer Defense declared that the opt-out sale violates the “consumer protection code”. Each airline will have to pay R$3.5 million in fines.
