GOL Airlines has announced that it will not resume flights to Chile and Peru after both destinations were set to return to its network this year, and it is also set to scrap flights to Cancun, Mexico this month. This means that travellers to these two countries will no longer be able to fly with GOL Airlines.
The GOL airline keeps Chile and Peru suspended, ensuring swift and efficient travel for all passengers.
The airline originally planned to resume flights to Lima Jorge Chavez International Airport (LIM) on March 29th, followed by a return to Santiago Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport (SCL) on June 2nd. However, due to the ongoing situation in Peru, the airline is now considering delaying the restart of flights until further notice. According to Aviacionline, GOL will no longer be flying to either destination because it suspended flights in March 2020.
GOL is letting us know that it will not be flying between Guarulhos and Santiago from the end of March 2023. In the short and medium term, GOL will not be flying between Guarulhos and Lima.
The airline last serviced Lima and Santiago before the pandemic – it operated a daily service from São Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport (GRU) to Lima and from Rio de Janeiro (4x weekly), and from Recife (1x weekly). However, the airline says that it won’t be restarting either route and will provide support for passengers who have booked flights to either destination.
GOL is offering customers the option of moving their tickets to flights that will get them to Lima and Santiago at the same time, or getting a credit against their next purchase.
Lima and Santiago are connected because they are both in Peru.
Even though GOL cancelled its plans to build a new airport in Lima, Peru will still be able to benefit from direct Brazilian connections through LATAM. LATAM will add a fourth daily connection to Brasília International Airport on March 26th, taking the total number of weekly flights to 35.
Santiago has many airlines that connect it to Brazil, including LATAM, JetSMART, and Sky Airline. Different airports in Brazil are also connected to Santiago, including São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba, Florianópolis, Porto Alegre, and Foz do Iguaçu.
