From the beginning of March, the month in which International Women’s Day is celebrated (8/3), six new female employees of Latam Airlines Brasil begin their training as co-pilots of the company. All are part of an exclusive group of women hired by the company to work in the cockpit of Airbus 320 family aircraft (A319, A320 and A321).
“This movement is part of our goal to encourage female participation in the aviation world, especially within the flight deck. Currently, the male audience is the one that most seeks the position of commercial pilot and we want to change this concept ”, says the airline’s Operations director, Geraldo de Meneses.
The co-pilot training lasts approximately five months and has practical training and instructors in all stages, from the company’s Training Academy, through the flight simulators and arriving at the routes operated by Latam. Once trained, they will be able to operate on domestic routes in Brazil, in addition to regional flights and to Miami (USA).
