Azul Airlines and United Airlines announced the expansion of their cooperation through the implementation of a codeshare agreement. The codeshare agreement offers customers flying on both companies a unified service of reservations and ticketing, including boarding pass and baggage check until the final destination. Loyalty programs of both companies were also included in the expansion. This is the first international codeshare agreement of the Azul.
Azul put its code AD on United flights for eight US cities, offering convenient departures from various cities in Brazil to Chicago, New York, Houston, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston, Washington and Las Vegas.
Connections to other cities in the United States are also available from Fort Lauderdale / Miami and Orlando. United put its UA code in Azul flights to six destinations in Brazil beyond São Paulo International Airport in Guarulhos, offering convenient connections to Goiania, Belo Horizonte (Confins), Curitiba, Porto Alegre, Rio de Janeiro (Santos Dumont) and Brasilia.
Loyalty programs: TudoAzul members can earn and redeem miles on United’s MileagePlus program, in buying tickets through Azul’s sales channels. MileagePlus members can now earn and redeem TudoAzul points since last year.
In June 2015, Azul and United announced a strategic long-term partnership in which United acquired approximately 5 percent Azul’s stake for $100 million. In August, Azul and United announced an interline agreement, providing together six thousand daily flights to over 350 destinations around the world.
