Iberia Expands Brazil Network with New Flights to Recife and Fortaleza

Iberia is strengthening its presence in Brazil with the launch of two new routes from Madrid to Northeastern Brazil. Starting December 13, 2025, the Spanish flag carrier will inaugurate direct flights to Recife (REC), followed by a new service to Fortaleza (FOR) beginning on December 19, 2025.

Both routes will be operated with the Airbus A321XLR, one of the most modern narrow-body aircraft in Iberia’s fleet. The A321XLR offers 182 seats and is designed for long-haul comfort, combining fuel efficiency with extended range capabilities. Each route will be served three times per week, providing strong connectivity between Spain and Brazil’s vibrant Northeast.

A Strategic Expansion in Brazil

The new services mark an important step in Iberia’s growth strategy in Latin America, where the airline already serves major hubs like São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. By adding Recife and Fortaleza, Iberia taps into a region with high tourism appeal, strong cultural ties to Europe, and increasing demand for transatlantic travel.

Both Recife and Fortaleza are gateways to some of Brazil’s most famous beaches and cultural landmarks. For Spanish and European travelers, these flights open up easier access to destinations such as Porto de Galinhas, Jericoacoara, and Olinda, while also boosting business and family connections.

Benefits for Passengers

  • Convenience: Three weekly frequencies offer flexible travel options for both leisure and corporate travelers.

  • Efficiency: The A321XLR allows Iberia to operate long-haul flights with lower fuel burn, making these routes more sustainable.

  • Connectivity: Passengers from Recife and Fortaleza gain seamless access to Iberia’s hub in Madrid, with onward connections to more than 90 destinations across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

Strengthening Madrid as a Gateway

With these additions, Madrid Barajas Airport further consolidates its role as a major bridge between Europe and Latin America. For Brazil, Iberia’s new routes diversify international air access and strengthen tourism and business ties with Spain and the EU.

The launch of Recife and Fortaleza highlights Iberia’s commitment to deepening its footprint in Brazil while offering passengers more travel choices and modern comfort.
