April 2026 – A New Gateway Between Africa and Brazil Opens
Cape Verde Airlines has officially announced the launch of its new route connecting Praia, the capital of Cabo Verde (Cape Verde), with Recife, the vibrant coastal capital of Pernambuco, Brazil. This new air link marks an important milestone in strengthening the historical, cultural, and economic ties between West Africa and northeastern Brazil.
A Strategic Connection
The twice-weekly service is set to begin in June 2026 and will be operated by the airline’s Boeing 737 MAX fleet. With a flight time of approximately 4.5 hours, the new route opens a convenient and efficient passage across the Atlantic, catering to both leisure and business travelers.
For Cape Verde Airlines, this expansion is part of a broader strategy to position Praia’s Nelson Mandela International Airport as a central hub for transatlantic travel between Africa, Europe, and the Americas. Recife joins a growing list of destinations served from Praia, including Lisbon, Paris, Dakar, and Boston.
Why Recife?
Recife offers Cape Verde Airlines a strategic entry point into Brazil’s thriving northeast. Known for its rich Afro-Brazilian heritage, colonial architecture, and burgeoning tech industry, Recife aligns well with the airline’s goal of connecting destinations that share cultural synergies and growth potential.
“We are thrilled to reconnect two regions with deep historical and cultural bonds,” said the CEO of Cape Verde Airlines. “This new route reflects our commitment to building bridges between continents while offering travelers more affordable and direct options.”
Boost for Tourism and Trade
Tourism boards in both countries have welcomed the move, predicting a boost in visitor numbers and new opportunities for trade. Cape Verdeans in Brazil and Brazilians with ancestral ties to Africa are expected to benefit particularly from this reconnection.
Looking Ahead
With this launch, Cape Verde Airlines continues to reassert itself as a dynamic player in transatlantic aviation. Travelers can already begin booking flights for the inaugural journey in June, with competitive fares and promotional packages expected to roll out soon.
As the airline looks to expand further into South America and possibly even the southern United States, Recife may well be just the first step in a broader Cape Verdean aviation renaissance.
