LATAM Airlines Group is making a major move to enhance the passenger experience by investing $60 million to implement high-speed onboard Wi-Fi via Viasat across more than 130 aircraft. This includes Airbus A320 family aircraft serving domestic and regional routes in Brazil, Chile, Peru, Colombia, and Ecuador.
The rollout, scheduled to begin in late 2024 and continue through 2026, will make LATAM the first airline group in South America to offer Viasat’s Ka-band satellite internet. This technology allows passengers to stream video, browse, and stay connected with speeds and reliability comparable to home broadband.
LATAM plans to offer tiered connectivity options, including free messaging and paid plans for full internet access. This upgrade supports the airline’s broader digital transformation strategy and aims to meet growing demand for in-flight connectivity across Latin America.
The deal marks a significant milestone for Viasat as it expands its footprint in the Latin American aviation market. With competition intensifying among regional carriers, LATAM’s investment could reshape customer expectations and raise the bar for onboard services throughout the continent.
Passengers flying with LATAM can soon expect a smoother, more connected travel experience — whether for work, entertainment, or staying in touch mid-air.
