Brazilian carriers LATAM Airlines and GOL are strengthening their international networks through expanded codeshare agreements with Qatar Airways and TAP Air Portugal, creating new connection opportunities between South America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
The two partnerships are being introduced gradually and reflect a broader trend among airlines to expand their international reach without necessarily adding their own aircraft and routes.
LATAM and Qatar Airways Expand Partnership via Bogotá
Qatar Airways and LATAM are expanding their longstanding codeshare relationship, with Bogotá becoming an increasingly important connection point between South America and Qatar Airways’ global network.
Beginning in late October, Qatar Airways will place its code on LATAM’s Bogotá–São Paulo/Guarulhos service. From November 4, the agreement expands further to include LATAM domestic flights from Bogotá to 17 Colombian destinations, including Medellín, Cartagena, Cali, Barranquilla, San Andrés, Santa Marta and Pereira.
The expansion coincides with Qatar Airways’ new Doha–Bogotá–Caracas–Doha service, scheduled to begin November 4. LATAM will place its code on the Qatar Airways operation, opening additional connections from Colombia and other parts of South America through Doha.
For travelers, the partnership creates easier access to Qatar Airways’ extensive network from its Doha hub, particularly to destinations across the Middle East, India and Asia. Qatar Airways serves more than 160 destinations worldwide.
GOL and TAP Extend Partnership Across the Atlantic
Meanwhile, GOL and TAP Air Portugal have begun reciprocal codesharing on transatlantic routes between Brazil and Portugal.
Under the expanded agreement, GOL can sell flights operated by TAP between Lisbon and several Brazilian cities, including Belém, Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Florianópolis, Fortaleza, Natal, Porto Alegre, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and São Paulo. The agreement also includes TAP’s Porto–São Paulo route.
In the opposite direction, TAP is placing its code on GOL’s new Rio de Janeiro/Galeão–Lisbon service, which GOL launched on September 16.
The arrangement is particularly significant because TAP already has one of the largest networks connecting Brazil and Europe. In 2026, the Portuguese carrier is celebrating 60 years of regular service to Brazil while continuing to expand its presence in the country.
More International Options for Brazilian Travelers
The two expanded partnerships illustrate how Brazil’s largest airlines are increasingly using alliances and codeshares to extend their reach beyond the destinations they operate themselves.
For GOL, cooperation with TAP significantly expands its presence between Brazil and Europe just as the airline begins developing its own long-haul operation to Portugal.
For LATAM, the deeper relationship with Qatar Airways creates another gateway from South America toward the Middle East and Asia, complementing LATAM’s already extensive international network.
For passengers, the practical result should be more itineraries that can be purchased under a single airline code, easier connections and access to a much larger selection of destinations without requiring Brazilian airlines to operate every international segment themselves.
As international traffic to and from Brazil continues to grow, partnerships such as GOL–TAP and LATAM–Qatar Airways are becoming an increasingly important part of how Brazilian carriers compete in the global market.
