LATAM Airlines Brasil is preparing for a major expansion of its international operations, announcing plans to increase its international capacity by 20% by January 2026. This bold move reflects the airline’s strong recovery from pandemic-era slowdowns and its growing ambition to reassert itself as a key player in global aviation from South America.
The airline has already begun taking steps toward this target. In the first half of 2025, LATAM experienced a significant 27% year-on-year increase in international capacity, showcasing strong momentum. Key drivers of this growth include the launch of new long-haul and regional routes as well as improved connectivity from its São Paulo (Guarulhos) hub.
Recent route additions such as São Paulo–Johannesburg and São Paulo–Los Angeles, as well as increased frequencies to Europe and North America, highlight LATAM’s strategy to diversify its international network and tap into high-demand global markets. The carrier has also benefited from expanded codeshare agreements, particularly with Delta Air Lines, further enhancing its presence in the trans-American corridor.
This planned 20% increase aligns with broader trends in Brazilian outbound travel, which has rebounded strongly amid rising consumer confidence and favorable exchange rates. LATAM’s investment signals confidence not only in the Brazilian market but also in the airline’s operational efficiency and fleet modernization.
As competition intensifies among Latin American carriers, LATAM’s international expansion is a clear bid to consolidate its leadership in long-haul travel from Brazil. With robust partnerships and a focus on strategic destinations, the airline appears well-positioned to meet its 2026 goals and capture a growing share of global travel demand.
